Archival Research
By Drew Doebelin

My brother Rush Doebelin started volunteering with us two weeks ago, so he's been helping me out on Fridays! He helped me scan two probate records, one of which is related to the Civil War black soldiers project, and also started an excel project that will help the society better access a list of previous purchases and comparison prices from different companies.
I mostly did research last week for the Civil War black soldiers project, making an ancestry tree for the genealogies of the soldiers. I did heavily focus on George Yancey's family (what can I say, he's my favorite soldier!) but also because I am still determining where his family went before he enlisted. It looks like they may have been living separately from each other under same-family slave owners, though I am still figuring that out.
This week on Monday I visited the Missouri State Archives and got to see author Michelle Brooks again! I also got to use a microfilm machine and look at the muster rolls of the 65th U.S.C.T, which has helped me a lot. I was mostly surprised by how much tape was put on the original records, and how it affected the visibility on the microfilm!
