These past few weeks have been fun!

I’m continuing to work on the Callaway County colored troops who enlisted during the Civil War excel, (which ended up having more than 450 soldiers!) and recording what their ranks were and if they died during service, when and how they died. There will be a presentation board showing what we’ve collected on our soldiers during the August 22^nd Life Long Learning session, “First To Freedom”.

I’ve been helping scan memorial booklets, probate record, and newspaper advertisements from the Fulton company Blattner’s in the 1930s for women’s clothes. When I told my family about the newspaper ads, they instantly said, “The furniture company?”, but there used to also be a Blattner’s Clothing Store!

Drew Doebelin has been working hard to add our old newspapers to our digital collection.

Last week (on July 14^th) we celebrated Museum Director Haley Sylvia’s birthday! Since there were multiple July birthdays, we celebrated Sheila Guthrie’s (July 17^th) and my birthday (July 30^th) as well!

I ‘ve been with the historical society for 3 months, and to me it feels like such a short time to have gotten to know everyone (the time has flown by!!), and I feel very grateful to have gotten to celebrate together with the people who have taught me so much!
