Research and Digitization

Last week, the weather was too wet to go and clean museum items. I stayed inside and worked on a project about Callaway county’s colored troops during the civil war, where I listed the names of soldiers and enlistment dates in an excel sheet. I will be working on a small presentation discussing the soldiers I found to go along with the August 22^nd Life Long Learning session, “First To Freedom”, which is a book signing with Michelle Brooks. I will also be working on an updated list of slave owners from Callaway County using that excel sheet and the probate records in our archive.

I also started a project that has me scanning in documents from our research books, starting with Auxvasse. Digitization of the Historical Society’s documents is going to be a long and tedious process, but it helps make history much more accessible and easier to search through.
